What is 20Tiles?

20Tiles is a daily word puzzle game where you receive 20 letter tiles and place them on a grid to form crossword-style words. A new puzzle is available every day, and every player receives the same set of letters, making it easy to compare scores and compete with friends.

Play at your own pace (but submit before midnight!). Use all 20 tiles to win. Aim for the highest score to compete.

How to Play

1. Reveal Your Tiles

Each day you receive 20 letter tiles, dealt face-down in your tile tray. Tap any tile to flip them all over. The tile you tap becomes your Golden Tile, which earns extra points when used in words.

2. Build Words on the Grid

Drag tiles from your tray onto the 20×20 grid to form words. Words are read left-to-right (horizontal) or top-to-bottom (vertical), just like a crossword. All placed tiles must form a single connected group, and each word must be at least 2 letters long.

The grid is zoomable and pannable, so you have plenty of room to build. You can freely move tiles between the grid and tray until you submit.

3. Check and Submit

Use the Check button to validate your words before submitting. Words are validated against a comprehensive dictionary. When you're satisfied with your board, hit Submit to lock in your score.

Scoring

Your score is based on how effectively you use your tiles, especially the Golden Tile:

• Word starts with the Golden Tile: +2 points per tile in that word
• Word contains the Golden Tile (not at the start): +2 points for the Golden Tile and its direct neighbors, +1 point for the rest
• Long words: Valid words with 5 or more tiles earn +1 point per tile (only if that tile would otherwise score 0).
• Word loops containing the Golden Tile: +1 point per tile (only if that tile would otherwise score 0)
• Other words: Valid words not covered by the above rules earn 0 points per tile
• Unused tiles Disconnected tiles or tiles in invalid words: −1 point (must be placed in tray before submitting)

The key to a high score is placing all your tiles and building long words that include your Golden Tile—especially at the start of words.

Game Controls

• ✓ (check): Validates all words on the grid. Displays interim score.
• A-Z (sort): Alphabetizes tiles in your tray. Moves tiles to and from the grid.
• Submit: Finalizes your board and locks in your score

20Tiles is more fun with friends. Compare scores and see how others approached the same puzzle:

• Leaderboards: See how you rank against all players on the daily leaderboard, or view all-time rankings by average score
• Friends: Add friends, view each other's completed boards, and compete in teams
• Reactions: React to your friends' completed board with emojis, or replay their game
• Statistics: Track your games played, statistics, and achievements
